Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis
Center for Excellence in Pharmaceutical Analysis
Pharmaceutical Analysis is a specialized branch within the field of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences that focuses on the identification, quantification, and purification of drugs, along with the determination of their chemical structure and stability. It is an essential component of drug development, quality control, and regulatory compliance, ensuring that pharmaceutical products meet the necessary standards for safety, efficacy, and quality. This discipline involves the application of various analytical techniques to examine both the active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and the excipients used in the formulation of medicines.
Pharmaceutical analysis includes not only traditional methods such as titrimetry, spectroscopy, and chromatography but also advanced techniques like mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). These methods are used to ensure that drugs are pure, potent, and free of harmful impurities. The analysis also extends to the stability testing of pharmaceuticals, helping to determine their shelf life, ideal storage conditions, and potential degradation over time.
