Description

Expanded Metrics & Indicators

1. Mid-Semester Examination Scores

Evaluation of academic understanding at formative stages

– Average marks secured across all mid-term exams per semester
– Subject-wise performance trends
– Improvement trends from mid- to end-semester exams
– Subject pass/fail ratios at mid-semester level

2. Comprehensive Viva Voce Performance

Evaluation of cumulative subject understanding through oral examination

– Average viva scores across semesters
– Performance in integrated viva (covering multiple subjects)
– Faculty evaluation rubrics (knowledge depth, articulation, clinical correlation)
– Feedback from external/internal viva panelists
– Frequency and coverage (e.g., once per year, final year only, or per semester)

3. End-Semester Exam Performance

Summative evaluation of theoretical and practical knowledge

– Pass percentage and GPA distribution across semesters
– Number of students scoring first-class, distinction, or rank positions
– Course-wise and subject-wise analysis of high/low performers
– Practical exam performance (labs, dispensing, instrumentation)

4. Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA)

Ongoing assessment including class tests, quizzes, assignments, presentations

– Assignment submission rates and average quality scores
– Class test and quiz scores
– Faculty feedback on participation and academic engagement
– Weightage consistency across departments

5. Academic Progression Rate

Student continuity and progression without academic backlog

– % of students progressing to the next academic year without ATKT (allowed to keep terms) or backlogs
– Number of students repeating subjects or years
– Dropout rate due to academic reasons
– Year-on-year improvement in retention

6. Remedial Support and Impact

Effectiveness of academic support provided to low performers

– Number and frequency of remedial sessions conducted
– Improvement in scores of academically weak students post-support
– Tutor/mentor interventions and documented outcomes
– Student feedback on remedial teaching

Calculation :

API = (Number of students with academic score > 20 ÷ Total number of students) × 100

Explanation

  • Academic Score > 20 (out of 40): You are checking how many students crossed the 50% threshold in academic performance.
  • Total Number of Students: Class size.
  • Multiply by 100 to convert to a percentage.
  • This formula tells you the percentage of students in the class who met a minimum academic competency
